Come Join Me–24 Hour Gaming Marathon Charity Event for MacMillan Cancer Support

MacMillan Cancer - Game Changers 24hr Marathon

24 hour gaming marathon for charity - come join me

marioCome join me online for a 24 hour PC/video gaming marathon event, in support of a great cause!

As some of you may know I was diagnosed, and underwent treatment, for Hodgkins Lymphoma (stage 2A), back in 2013.

This involved 12 rounds of chemotherapy, and luckily for me the outcome was positive, with my being given the all clear at the end of the treatment cycle in early 2014.

gaming 2It was a very tough time for myself and my family, but through the loving support of my family, friends and the truly wonderful IT/Tech community, which I’m privileged to be part of, this “life adventure” was made easier to undertake.

During this time both the Lymphoma Association and the MacMillan Cancer Support charities were fantastic, and provided much support and encouragement.

I saw the MacMillan “Game Changers” charity event advertised (http://gamechangers.macmillan.org.uk and wanted to take part in it so as to have the opportunity to, in some small way, repay their support and kindness.

I had always planned to take part in sponsored charity events once I was “back on the rails” again, for the reason I mentioned above.  Though my fitness and energy levels still aren’t at a good enough level for any extended physical activities, such as cycle rides, runs, etc.  Even 18 months after finishing my final treatment I still suffer from fatigue (due to the harsh, though luckily effective, treatment for the Hodgkins Lymphoma).

Playing video games for a 24 hour marathon will no doubt be mentally tiring, though won’t be too physically strenuous. I feel this is a small step in the right direction to achieving my goal of partaking in charity events, and makes me happy knowing that I have the opportunity to help support MacMillan Cancer.

When:  I am going start at 12pm (midday) GMT on Saturday 14th November and will be gaming through to 12PM (midday) GMT on Sunday 15th November.

Where: Twitch_logo.svgI will be streaming my gaming marathon, complete with webcam and a chat window, for the full 24 hours via my Twitch channel which you can find here:  http://www.twitch.tv/techhead

I am predominantly a PC gamer, though will be mixing it up with some XBox One gaming as well.

Here is a list of the games (although not limited to) that I will be playing for the marathon:

PC:

  • Counter Strike: Global Operations
  • League of Legends
  • H1Z1
  • Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition
  • Rocket League
  • Battlefield 4
  • Battlefield: Bad Company 2
  • The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
  • Magicka 2
  • Dota 2 (not that I know how to play it)  Smile

XBox One:

  • Forza
  • Battlefield 4
  • Fifa 15
  • Far Cry 4

So please come and join me on the day, either to play an online multiplayer game, spectate or to just chat. I’ll be online for 24 hours, so I’ll be around whatever time-zone you’re in – it’d be great to see you there!

Perhaps even sign up to take part in the gaming marathon yourself – the more the merrier, and it’s a great cause!

MacMillan-GameChangersIf you are in a position to, and would like to make a donation, however small (every little bit counts), to the MacMillan Cancer Support charity via my Just Giving charity page here, then that would also be much appreciated.

I hope to see you on my Twitch page for the gaming marathon, and please feel free to leave a comment below if you’re interested in taking part or meeting up online for a game during the 24 hours.

Thanks,

Simon
