During the recent VMware Partner Exchange (PEX 2011) I finally managed to get my hands on the newly released EMC VNXe storage appliance. First impressions are that it is a good looking capable unit which will no doubt prove to be popular in both the SMB and Enterprise remote office space. There was certainly a lot of interest and buzz around it on the EMC stand (where I was helping out) during the PEX event so I’m sure it’ll be a popular offering in EMC’s storage portfolio. It’s new management interface (Unisphere) is definitely intuitive and when combined with the built in wizards makes it very easy to use which is what is needed if this unit is to be used in the SMB space. One other thing is that it may look small, and it is, but geeez is this thing heavy when loaded with disk!
To demonstrate the ease of VMware vSphere storage provisioning, snapshot and replication on the VNXe I asked David Henry from the EMC VMware affinity team to takes us through the steps involved in the VNXe’s Unisphere web interface. I think you’ll agree it’s real straight forward and intuitive stuff. Now I just have to figure out who to get a VNXe for my work/home vSphere lab.
