As you may, or may not, be aware today (September 10th) could be considered quite a significant day in our history as scientists from many countries flick on the switch (though not all at the same time 🙂 ) to CERN’s Large Hadron Collider (LHC).
If you haven’t heard anything about it have a read of this BBC site which gives a background into the days events and everything leading up to it.
As you’d probably imagine the amount of data the men and women in white coats (not as in the type that take you away but the boffin variety) want to capture for further analysis and modelling is significant.
It’s an interesting read in an anorak train spotting kinda way.
