How to find what version, service pack level and edition of Microsoft (MS) SQL you are running.

Isn’t it annoying that you can never easily find what version and service pack revision of Microsoft SQL you are running?

Well simply cut and paste this query into the SQL Server Management Studio console (click the ‘New Query’ button on the tool bar), run it and the ‘hey presto’ it’ll give you such information as what version of SQL you are running, the service pack level and what edition (ie: Standard, Enterprise, etc).

SELECT SERVERPROPERTY(‘productversion’), SERVERPROPERTY (‘productlevel’), SERVERPROPERTY (‘edition’)

Note: The above query should be all on one line.
