HP Engineering has identified an extremely rare but potential scenario in which incorrect data may be written to various HP SAS hard drive models.
This can only potentially occur when the drive WRITE CACHE is enabled. HP SAS hard drives ship with WRITE CACHE disabled by default. WRITE CACHE will only be enabled on a drive that is rebuilding in a Fault Tolerant Rebuild scenario or has been manually enabled via the HP Array Configuration Utility.
HP claim that “it has only been observed in a test environment during rigorous multiple abort command stress testing and has not been reported in a production environment. HP has received no reports from customers experiencing this issue.”
It will definately be worth the time to check your potentially affected HP servers.
