Whilst looking for something else completely unrelated on the EMC PowerLink* web portal I saw that there had just been an update (version 4.0) to the ‘Using EMC Celerra Storage with VMware vSphere and VMware Infrastructure’ tech book and thought it worth a mention. For those of you not familiar with this Tech Book it is a sizable 474 page document that covers, as the title suggests, the various best practices and recommendations for running your EMC Celerra within a VMware vSphere environment.
Topics in the techbook include connectivity, monitoring, storage considerations (eg: disk types, RAID levels, VM alignment, etc) and configuration options. Even if you aren’t a Celerra owner/user it makes for a good read as many of the various best practices discussed would also apply to many of the other SAN and NAS storage devices being used in a VMware vSphere environment.
To download this techbook log onto the EMC PowerLink web portal and navigate via the menu to the following location:
Home > Products > Hardware/Platforms > Celerra Family > TechBooks
* The PowerLink web portal is a location where EMC customers can log on and download various technical, sales and training resources on EMC products.
