1. Hi thanks for upgrade solution.
   I have a question regaring my StorageCenter Iomega StorCenter Device
   Iomega StorCenter ix12 2.6.23.34044 BIOS: R01.

   I am using this box with VMware ESX 4.0 connected with iSCSI option.
   I want to check if it is possible to user the same box for windows 2008 server cluster option.

   Is it possible?

2. hi i have a question,

   i have a ix2 200, and want to upgrade the disk firmware,
   you havent stated which files need to be in the route directory on the usb pen on boot as i cant get it to work with just what was downloaded from the above link.

3. Since I updated my ix2-200 firmaware to the last version, my nas don’t shutwdown.
   I updated also the firmware of the Seagate HD’s to version CC37, but did not work. Any idea??

   • Just experienced my Ix2 not shutting down. Also could not find it on the network. These devices are now old enough for the battery on its internal board to be completely flat. I changed mine and voila…..all good.

4. I have the same problem with the NAS not shutting down since I upgraded the disks to the latest firmware… any ideas?

Good evening, I have a ix2-200 too, and I can’t access the management console, I can access the files over the network normally, I followed a procedure to format the disks and placing the firmware ix2-200-3.2.10.30101.tgz in a flash storage and starting with the reset button, but it did not work. Am I putting the correct firmware? which version you recommend me? MODEL 31953200

   • Hi Ely,

     From the firmware version number you provided it would appear that you have mixed the updating the hard drives method (via USB pen/key drive), and updating your actual ix2’s firmware.

     The StorCenter ix2-200, Cloud Edition — Firmware Version 3.2.10.30101 (see: https://lenovo-na-en.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/26789/related/1 )is for the ix2’s firmware and not the drives contained within the unit. To update this firmware you’d typically use the web based management interface to do this, and not use a USB key/pen drive.

     Have you tried restarting your ix2 and then accessing the management console again via its IP adddress?

   • Hi Nige,

     You can get any available IX2 and IX4 images from the Lenovo site here. These NAS devices are getting quite long in the tooth now, so do expect any major firmware updates.

    During the start-up it comes with an error saying “Drive 4 is missing”

    Thought i would update the firmware of our ix4-200d. After a reboot it stuck at 25 Percent boot, Have tried the following,

    -Reboot by removing power
    -Initiated reset by depressing the reset button in back.
    -Re-seat of hard drives

    Can the OS be reset to factory without losing data?

16. Anyone needing software for their IX2 200 please feel free to contact me as it is no longer available from Lenovo who bought out Iomega. They have dropped all support. I have the last version of the firmware and installation software. This device just keeps going with a little care from time to time.

      I tried many versions via the GUI, but none worked besides ix4-200d-2.1.50.30227.
      this version is no good since once I did it, I was unable to access the appliance due to SSL/SSH error…..

      which version would that be? i have a good old ix4-200d still running fine, just only thing is cypher mismatches and realy vulnerable… but otherwise running 😉
      Has anyone got something past 2.1.50.30227? I would even be interested in aynones experiences with a sideloading or alternative, just the fact being that the case is really well designed and it just runs.
      Any for of Feedback i would greatly appreaciate 🙂

      I found in my basement a Iomega Ix2 with software version 2.1.25.229 !
      Nowadays browsers can’t talk with the NAS (ERR_SSL_VERSION OR CIPHER MISMATCH)
      i managed to connect with an old computer.
      I found some firmware on lenovo web site … but they request to have at least 2.1.31 installed to do the update…

      do you have an idea on how i could update my firmware ?

17. Hello, i have a Iomega IX2 (not NG), the one with label on front bottom…
    I lost (broken) his hd, so i need to start from ‘0 to reinstall also the fw on disk0, to access to web interface (at least).
    I tried with all procedures, but nothing happens… the NAS’s blue led continue to blinking and web page was always refused.
    Any ideas? I need the original fw to put on, i just put on disk 0 the zimage and initrd.
    Need any help. Thanks!

    • If the ix2 is anything like the ix4-200d you will need the recovery firmware and possibly a USB to TTL cable to attach directly to the motherboard to do anything from scratch. Here is the current link to the ix2-200d available firmware https://download.lenovo.com/lenovoemc/eu/en/app/cust_alp/p/1031%2c1071.html

      As far as the recovery firmware you could try to contact Lenovo and hope they still have access to it or search. Use multiple search engines to find different results but at first look it seems like the ix4-200d and ix2-200d use the same firmware so you could try using the ix4-200d recovery firmware that I have googled and use to retore my ix4-200d to working order but it may also ruin your drives/brink the device completely if that is incorrect.

      If you are more technical or like to tinker you could also search for the tutorial on how they created the recovery firmware. If I remember correctly I believe they used the standard file downloaded from iOmega/Lenovo but I also have seen in the blogs that the only way to get access to the recovery firmware was to pay for support while it was available and start a troubleshooting ticket that required it.

      At least for the ix4-200d all the OS/firmware lived on the removable hard drives so if you have no drives you MUST have the recovery tools, including USB to TTL cable to connect another computer directly to the motherboard. You will need something like Putty and a TFTP or something like that so you can remote access the UBOOT shell of the motherboard. There are a few tutorials I found in searches but they were all for ix4-200d which is what I own.

Here is the “hidden” page for the iOmega StorCenter ix4-200d firmware (https://download.lenovo.com/lenovoemc/na/en/app/answers/detail/a_id/22315.html) but Lenovo is likely close to deleting permanatly. You can find the ONLY TWO firmware optoins available to download as they have removed any other links or linked pages.

    I had found all versions of the firmware last year when I got my used unit off eBay but after accidentally deleting them all I have spend days trying to find any blog or site that may happen to have them still. Sadly the only other places you can now find the other Firmware versions are on those semi shady sites that backup and save most all software. You can always try those sites but you can still find the tutorials on how to reformat the ix4-200d from scratch (this requires a TTL to USB adapter and some software) but I have successfully done this a few times. Unfortunatly that recovery software is NOT available from Lanovo anymore.

    Luckily the most recent and up-todate firmware available for the ix4-200d is one of those two still available.
    ix4-200d-ix4-200d-2.1.50.30227.tgz with the second being… ATTENTION: You may need to upgrade the version of Lifeline OS before proceeding with this upgrade. If your StorCenter ix4-200d is running a version lower than 2.1.31, you need to update using ix4-200d-ix4-200d-2.1.38.22294.tgz before updating to 2.1.50.30227.

    I forget what version the restoration firmware was but I believe it was Version 2.1.44.30050, I’m not sure if I could tell without doing a fresh reinstall from scratch but I still have the USB flash drive so if someone else needs to know I could try and find out.

    P.S. There is some huge confusion out there about upgrading because there is the ix4-200d and there was a much newer updated model ix4-200d CE or Cloud Edition and dispite the name and similarities the Cloud Ediditon has updates and hardware that its software NOT COMPATIBLE with the ix4-200d NOT cloud model. So to be clear the ix4-200d CAN NOT be updated pased the version 2.1.50.30227 unless you try to install Debian/OpenNAS which is my next goal but it may be the case that any custom OS installation will make bay 3 and 4 un-useable meaning you can now only use 2 hard drives and might have two non-funtional empty space bays.

    P.S.S. The Firmware/OS is stored on the actual Hard Drives, there is no on board memory. So this means if you buy this box like me without any hard drives you MUST use a USB to TTL adapter cable to “hack” the firmware back on. Its very doable but I had to make tweaks to the spotty tutorials I found as none of them woked when I followed them exactly. I hope to try and type up a nice tutorial and information all about this device and my progress after I finish and can be sure to post a valid working tutorial as I know many still have and use these things.

    i have to upgrade IX2 from version 2.1.50
    Since firmware must be upgraded step by step and i managed to find the latest published versions, i miss a version 3.0.6 … or maybe also any version between 2.1.50 and 3.0

    Does anybody have info on these ?
