Well, as the saying goes “better late than never”.. and as such here is episode 15 of vChat. I had planned to have this edited and out the door about a week and a half ago though things became busy which held things up a little.
In this episode of vChat we have a couple of special guests with us whom I’m sure you would have heard of or if not met before, Frank Denneman and Duncan Epping. These guys embody almost all things deep-dive when it comes to vSphere and with the recent release of their new book on HA and DRS we take the opportunity to ask about the background behind the book, whether an electronic version is in the pipeline along with their plans for any future publications. Other topics, as you’d imagine, cover the VMware iPad app (and the potential security issues) and their home vSphere labs.
COMPETITION TIME – WIN A FREE HA/DRS BOOK! Frank and Duncan are also giving away two copies of their new HA and DRS book, the details of which are included in the vChat… Good luck.

Great vChat. Thank you!
Great vChat episode. Frank and Duncan, I am surprised that you have time to sleep with your busy schedule while doing your work, blogging, writing books, etc… Keep up the good work.
As part of the contest, the picture that’s in the front of the “VMware vSphere 4.1 HA and DRS Technical deepdive” book is a Griffin. The Griffin is part eagle, and part lion. Its natural enemy is the horse.
Griffin mythology did not come from the Greek, but from people that lived in Asia who traveled to Greece and talked about these creatures to the Greeks.
Going to the folklore, it is in their instinct to find buried gold, emeralds, and other treasures. (In other word, in the book, you will find golden nuggets of information that you can treasure :)). It has the best parts of both the lion and the eagle and is a formidable creature (possibly like combining HA and DRS in one book). It also guarded gold and other treasures (just like HA and DRS can do for an organisation’s ability to provide near continuous services through its vSphere infrastructure). It was also known to hoard gold (just like some applications do and DRS can help manage and minimize it’s effect).
Getting closer to our time, in the Middle Ages within Christendom, since griffins would keep the same mate for ever, they were seen as symbolism for marriage. One could say that from the books perspective, HA and DRS are a marriage made in heaven never to be broken apart…

@All, Thanks for the vChat. It was wonderfully organized.
Back to the quiz:-
The Griffin is a legendary creature with the body of lion and head n wings of an eagle.
As the lion was traditionally considered the king of the beasts and the eagle was the king of the birds, the griffin was thought to be an especially powerful and majestic creature
Griffins are known for guarding treasure and priceless possessions.
On the lighter side:-
I imagine both Duncan and Frank as a paleontologist and giving us great information of HA and DRS from fossils (Griffin – vSphere ):)

I’m going to make a guess that the Griffin is part of the herald of Frank’s home town since it’s used in the crest of so many places in the Netherlands.
Hi Simon,
Any updates on who the winners are?
Thanks!
