Here’s a white paper that I came across in my travels whilst at work that I thought may be of interest to those of you wanting to find out more about running VMware vSphere on the recently released EMC VNXe 3100 storage appliance. The VNXe is EMC’s new range of entry level storage appliances which are targeted at the SMB and remote office market. The VNXe is
certified ‘VMware Ready’ and is an ideal candidate for small virtualization environments (vSphere or Hyper-V) or for larger businesses wanting storage for branch or remote offices, check out my post here for more information.
I found the white paper to be an interesting easy going read with an architectural three node VMware vSphere 4.1 and single VNXe 3100 example complete with performance results.
Thanks for this Simon.
We’ve just purchased one of these bad boys for a 2 node ESXi 4.1 DMZ cluster that’s going to be situated at our ISP.

hi Simon,
thanks for this. is there any update on the VNXe VAAI release. IIRC it is supposed to be released around Q3.
thanks

I’m beginning to miss the AX4 series SAN’s; they didn’t dumb down the UI and hide critical functions. I’m still unsure if I have correctly configured my VNXE3100 for iSCSI multipathing, and do not have any best practises references to fall back to, as EMC have released *NO* documentation on this product *whatsoever*. If anyone knows of a thorough article documenting this procedure, it would be greatly appreciated!
